HSK Level 5
HSK (Level 5) tests candidates’ Chinese application ability, which corresponds to Level 5 of the Chinese Language Proficiency Scale for International Students and Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ( CEFR ) . Candidates who have passed HSK (Level 5) can read Chinese newspapers and magazines, enjoy Chinese film and television programs, and give relatively complete speeches in Chinese.
- Subject of examination
HSK (Level 5) is mainly for candidates who have studied Chinese for more than two years at a pace of 2-4 class hours per week and mastered 2,500 common words.
- Exam content
HSK (Level 5) has a total of 100 questions, divided into three parts: listening, reading and writing.

The entire test takes about 125 minutes (including 5 minutes for candidates to fill in their personal information).
1 . hearing
The first part consists of 20 questions. Listen to each question once. Each question is a two-sentence dialogue between two people. The third person asks a question based on the dialogue. There are 4 options on the test paper. Candidates choose the answer based on what they heard.
The second part has a total of 25 questions. Listen to each question once. This part of the test questions are all 4 to 5 dialogues or paragraphs. One or several questions are asked according to the dialogues or paragraphs. Each question on the test paper provides 4 options, and candidates choose the answer based on what they heard.
2 . read
The first part consists of 15 questions. Provide several texts, each text has several blanks, the blanks should be filled with a word or a sentence, each blank has 4 options, candidates should choose the answer.
The second part consists of 10 questions. Each question provides a paragraph of text and 4 options. Candidates should choose one that is consistent with the content of the text.
The third part has a total of 20 questions. Provide several texts, each text with several questions, candidates should choose the answer from 4 options.
3 . write
The first part consists of 8 questions. Each question provides several words and asks candidates to write a sentence using these words.
The second part consists of 2 questions . The first question provides a few words and requires candidates to use these words to write a short essay of about 80 words; the second question provides a picture and requires candidates to write a short essay of about 80 words in combination with the picture.
- Score report
The HSK (Level 5) score report provides four scores for listening, reading, writing and total score.
