TACHISA stands for Tanzania Chinese Language Interpreters and Students Association. This organization is focused on promoting the study of Chinese language and culture in Tanzania, as well as providing interpretation services between Chinese and Swahili or English.

TACHISA was founded in 3rd June 2018 by Tanzania Chinese language experts; ISSA SULTANI ANGOBOLA known as Angobiz Tz who served as TACHISA FORUM chairperson and Elenzian John Komba famously known as Elenzian JK by collaborating with other Chinese language experts from two prominent universities in Tanzania that was Muslim University of Morogoro and University of Dodoma for the first but it becomes more expanded to other universities like University of Dar es salaam and Nyerere Memorial University in Tanzania.

At the current TACHISA is under the following leaders:

ISSA SULTANI ANGOBOLA – CHAIRMAN

ELENZIAN JOHN KOMBA – GENERAL SECRETARY

PETER ABDALLAH – ASSISTANCE SECRETARY

PROSPER MUJWENGE – ACCOUNTANT

The Tanzania Chinese Language Interpreters and Students Association (TACHISA) is an organization dedicated to promoting the study and use of the Chinese language in Tanzania. This organization plays a key role in bridging the cultural and linguistic gap between Tanzania and China, reflecting the growing relationship between the two countries in areas such as trade, education, and cultural exchange.

The Key aspects of the association and its role:

1. Promoting Chinese Language Learning

  • TACHISA aims to encourage the learning of Chinese among Tanzanians, particularly students and professionals who may need the language for business, diplomatic, or cultural exchanges.
  • The association provides language training, workshops, and resources to help students gain proficiency in Chinese, which is increasingly important in international trade, especially with China being a major trade partner for Tanzania.

2. Cultural Exchange

  • China-Tanzania relations have been growing steadily, especially in trade, infrastructure development, and investment. TACHISA likely plays a role in facilitating cultural exchange between the two nations.
  • Events like cultural festivals, Chinese New Year celebrations, and other educational activities could be part of TACHISA’s efforts to build mutual understanding between Chinese and Tanzanian communities.

3. Professional Development for Interpreters

  • Many members of the association are likely interested in becoming professional interpreters and translators, which is essential for diplomatic and business interactions between Tanzanians and Chinese speakers.
  • TACHISA may offer certification programs or job placement support for individuals who wish to work as Chinese language professionals in various sectors like trade, tourism, and government.

4. Educational Partnerships

  • The association may have partnerships with Chinese universities or language institutes that offer opportunities for Tanzanian students to study in China or for Chinese experts to visit Tanzania and teach the language.
  • There may also be student exchange programs, scholarships, or internships aimed at increasing the educational and professional exchange between the two nations.

5. Government and Diplomatic Support

  • Given the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Tanzania and China, the association could also collaborate with Tanzanian government bodies to promote Chinese language skills in the workforce, especially in sectors where China has a strong presence, such as infrastructure development, mining, and construction.

6. Growing Demand for Chinese Speakers

  • With China’s expanding influence globally and in Africa, there is an increasing demand for Chinese-speaking professionals in business, trade, and international relations. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the growing presence of Chinese companies in Tanzania have made it more important for Tanzanians to speak Chinese, particularly in fields like trade, logistics, finance, and technology.

7. Community Engagement

  • TACHISA may organize seminars, networking events, and conferences that bring together students, Chinese businesses, and professionals interested in deepening their understanding of both the language and culture.

The work of the Tanzania Chinese Language Interpreters and Students Association is part of a broader trend in many African countries where the Chinese language is increasingly important due to China’s growing economic footprint on the continent.

More details about the association, such as specific programs they run, notable achievements, or current activities, that we look forward it’s like the following:-

The Tanzania Chinese Language Interpreters and Students Association (TACHISA), being a specialized organization, that typically based and  available online, where they run out of their activities . However, based on the broader context of Chinese language studies and its impact on Tanzania, TACHISA filed themselves in various avenues for the benefit of their members and all Chinese experts in Tanzania.

Possible Programs & Activities of TACHISA

Since the association plays a key role in language education and cross-cultural exchange, it likely engages in a variety of activities that align with its mission. These include:

  1. Language Training Programs
    • Chinese language courses are central to TACHISA’s activities. These could be offered at various levels—beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Students might also receive specialized training for business Chinese, diplomatic Chinese, or even Chinese for trade. Some programs might focus on Chinese characters (Hanzi), pinyin, speaking, and writing.
  2. Certification and Qualification
    • TACHISA may be involved in preparing students for official language proficiency tests like the HSK (Hànyǔ Shuǐpíng Kǎoshì), which is a globally recognized test of Chinese language proficiency.
    • Certification programs could be offered for students interested in becoming professional interpreters or translators, which would allow them to work in businesses, government sectors, and international relations.
  3. Cultural Exchange Initiatives
    • Cultural immersion activities such as Chinese festivals, film screenings, art exhibitions, and cultural exchange days could be part of TACHISA’s role in building better understanding between the two countries.
    • The association may collaborate with other cultural organizations like the Confucius Institute (a Chinese government-supported cultural and language promotion body) to offer programs that bring Chinese culture to Tanzanians.
  4. Scholarships & Educational Opportunities
    • Given the growing links between China and Tanzania, TACHISA might work with Chinese universities and educational institutions to provide scholarships or exchange programs for Tanzanian students to study in China.
    • These programs may focus on language immersion, as well as scholarships for specialized courses in international relations, engineering, medicine, and trade, given the importance of these areas in the China-Tanzania partnership.
  5. Networking & Professional Development
    • As Chinese businesses continue to establish a presence in Tanzania, there is a strong demand for professionals who are fluent in Chinese. TACHISA could serve as a networking hub for students, language professionals, and businesses looking for Chinese language interpreters and translators.
    • The organization may also collaborate with Chinese chambers of commerce and local businesses to create job opportunities for its members who are trained in the language.

How TACHISA Contributes to the Tanzania-China Relations

China has become one of Tanzania’s largest trading partners, especially in sectors like infrastructure development and natural resources. The presence of Chinese construction companies and business ventures in Tanzania makes it increasingly vital for Tanzanians to have a strong grasp of Chinese, whether for economic negotiations, trade relations, or business deals.

TACHISA contributes by:

  • Providing language services to local businesses working with Chinese companies.
  • Facilitating smoother communication between Tanzanian government officials and Chinese counterparts.
  • Strengthening Tanzania’s diplomatic and economic ties with China by promoting understanding and collaboration.

Challenges & Opportunities

Though the association has a positive impact, the efforts to promote Chinese in Tanzania also face some challenges:

  • Limited Resources: There may be a lack of sufficient resources or specialized instructors, especially in rural areas. The cost of Chinese language courses may be a barrier for some students.
  • Interest Levels: While there is growing demand, the demand for Chinese might still be niche in comparison to more widely spoken international languages like English or French. However, as Tanzania’s engagement with China continues to grow, this demand is likely to increase.

At the same time, there are sample opportunities:

  • Belt and Road Initiative (BRI): Tanzania is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, and the demand for Chinese speakers in the construction, trade, and infrastructure sectors will only increase.
  • Private Sector Growth: More Tanzanian businesses are partnering with Chinese counterparts. Having bilingual employees who can speak both Kiswahili and Chinese will be an asset in trade negotiations.
  • Educational Expansion: More Tanzanians are likely to go to China for higher education and will need Chinese proficiency for academic and social integration.
