About Mbeya Zonal Referral Hospital
MZRH was formally upgraded from the former Mbeya regional hospital back in1984, and was officially inaugurated by her Highness, the daughter of the Queen of Britain in 1985. This success is backed up by the fact that the United Kingdom(UK) government was the major partner in the process of upgrading Mbeya Regional Hospital. The hospital serves approximately 8 million people in six regions namely; Katavi, Njombe, Rukwa, Ruvuma, Iringa and Mbeya.
The hospital has built a reputation in the health care industry, in its ability to deal with tertiary patient’s care, treatment, training and research. MZRH has 20 departments and sections including surgery, internal medicine, OPD / Casualty, Psychiatry, Radiology, Obstetric and Gynecology, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Dental, Physiotherapy, Pediatric, Administrative, Engineering, Ophthalmology, Accounts, Central Store, Pathology, Orthopedic and Eulogy.
In the realm of providing both preventive and curative health care services in the zone, MZRH has been collaborating with many partners in various activities and research including Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI), Walter Reed Program, Mbeya Medical Research Center (MMRC), GIZ, North Cumbria University Hospitals, Altnagelvin Hospital and JICA just to mention a few.
